INTRODUCTION
Wildlife,the
word bring many images to mind,a herd of deer, squirrels from treetop,a pack of
wolves, the silent flight of an owl. Each has basic needs for
food, water, shelter, and space that must be met. This journal will tell us the
important of protecting wildlife.
BACKGROUND OF STUDY
Wildlife
refers to non-domesticated animal species. Domesticating wild plant and animal
species for human benefit has occurred many times all over the planet, and has
a major impact on the environment, both positive and negative.
Wildlife
can be found in all ecosystems. Deserts, forests, rain forests, plains,
grasslands, and other areas including the most developed urban sites, all have
distinct forms of wildlife. While the term in popular culture usually refers to
animals that are untouched by human factors, most scientists agree that
wildlife around is affected by human activities.
SIGNIFICANT OF STUDY
My research title is about protecting
wildlife. The reason why i choose this title is because all of animal have a feel
like us,human in the future will get to know the animal if we protect them.
They also can be friend with human.
It also because animal populations are disappearing at an alarming rate. We
must protect wildlife because they also inspire us. The wildlife also important
to economy.
WHAT IS WWF?
WWF is one of the
world's largest conservation organizations. It was conceived on the 29th April
1961. Its first office opened in September 1961 in the Swiss town of Morges.
The central secretariat for the network called WWF International. is now
located in Gland, Switzerland WWF is an
independent foundation registered under Swiss law. Over the 50 years since it
was founded, WWF invested almost US$10 billion in more than 13,000 projects
HISTORY
·
In
1961, a limited number of organizations around the world such as the
International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN)
and The Conservation Foundation were trying to meet conservation needs, but
were desperately short of funds.
·
In
1961, WWF was conceived in April, 1961, and set up shop in September, 1961, at
IUCN headquarters in Morges, Switzerland. H.R.H. Prince Bernhard of the
Netherlands became the organization's first president.
·
WWF
hires its first scientist, Dr. Thomas E. Lovejoy, as a project administrator,
in 1973.
·
WWF
in 1975 helps create Corcovado National Park, located on Costa Rica's Osa
Peninsula. Corcovado contains 13 major habitat types and is the best example of
Central American tropical forest now under protection.
·
WWF
convenes the Cooperative Working Group on Bird Trade in 1990, bringing together
the pet industry, avicul-turalists, zoos, animal welfare organizations &
conservationists. The group recommends that the U.S. end the import of most
wild-caught birds for sale as pets
·
Governors
of Sumatra's 10 provinces sign an agreement pledging to restore critical
ecosystems in Sumatra and protect areas with high conservation values. WWF will
help implement this political commitment.
WHAT IS WWF’S MISSION
·
conserving
the world’s biological diversity
·
ensuring
that the use of renewable natural resources is sustainable
·
promoting
the reduction of pollution and wasteful consumption.
WHO WORKS WITH WWF?
In
carrying out its work, WWF cooperates with many partners, including UN
organizations, IUCN, and development agencies such as USAID and the World Bank.
WWF also works with business & industry partners.
WWF’S SPECIES
EXTINCT ANIMAL
SIVATHERIUM
Sivatherium
is an extinct genus of giraffid that ranged throughout Africa to the Indian
Subcontinent. The African species, S. maurusium, was once placed within the
genus Libytherium
WOLLY MAMMOTH
The
woolly mammoth was one of several species of mammoth, the earliest of which
were probably small and amphibious creatures living in North Africa until about
three million years ago.
DODO
Dodo, a
large flightless bird that once lived on the island of Mauritius in the Indian
Ocean but is now extinct. The dodo was related to the pigeon, but was the size
of a large turkey. Its body feathers were gray; breast and tail feathers were
white.
AUROCHS
Aurochs,
or Urus, an extinct ox that is believed to be the ancestor of domestic cattle.
The name aurochs is sometimes also applied to the European bison, or wisent.
For a discussion of the wisent, The aurochs once roamed the temperate areas of
the Old World in large numbers. They were exterminated by hunters and by
destruction of their forest habitat. The last aurochs died in Poland in 1627.
ANIMAL ENDANGERED
Ivory-Billed Woodpecker
Javan Rhinoceros
Amur Leopard
Northern Sportive Lemur
